Terms of Service

Last updated October 14, 2026

2dle is a free app for Mac, made by Masashi and Yuki, two people in Tokyo, Japan (that's the “we” on this page). These terms are the agreement between you and us for the app, its accounts and this website.

By installing or using 2dle, you agree to them. If you don't agree, no hard feelings, but please don't use 2dle. What we do with your information is on the privacy page.

Using 2dle

2dle is free for your own personal, non-commercial use, on any Mac you own or look after. A few things we ask:

  • Don't sell it, rent it out or hand out copies of it. Send people here to download it instead.
  • Don't pass off 2dle, or the art in it, as your own.
  • Don't try to break, overload or get around the security of the app or the service behind it.
  • Don't use it to break the law.

Accounts

You don't need an account to use 2dle. If you make one:

  • You need to be 13 or older. If you're under 18, ask a parent or guardian first.
  • One account each, with an email address that's really yours.
  • Keep your sign-in to yourself. What happens on your account is on you.
  • You can delete your account whenever you like, from your profile in the app.

Referral Codes

Every account comes with a referral code. When a friend enters yours, you each get a credit, and credits unlock things in the app, such as desk clocks.

  • You can enter one code, once. Not your own, and two people can't enter each other's.
  • Codes and credits aren't worth money, and can't be sold or traded.
  • No fake or extra accounts to farm credits, please. We may take back credits earned that way.
  • We may change how referrals work, or what they unlock.

Your Music

2dle follows the music that's already playing on your Mac. It doesn't play, stream or download music itself, so you need your own music app (and whatever subscription it asks for), and that app's own terms apply to how you use it.

Album covers, titles and artist names belong to their owners. 2dle shows them only so that your record looks like your record. 2dle isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Spotify, Apple, Deezer or Google, and their names are their own trademarks.

Sandwiches

2dle is free. If you ever buy us a sandwich, thank you! It's a gift, given freely, and not a purchase.

What's Ours

2dle, meaning the app, its scenes, models, animations, name and logo, and this website, belongs to us or to the people who let us use their work. Some parts come under open licences, and those stay under those licences. These terms give you the right to use 2dle, and nothing more than that.

If you send us ideas or feedback (please do!), we may use them freely, without owing you anything.

Changes, and Stopping

2dle is a spare-time project. We may change, pause or stop it, or any part of it, at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. You can stop at any time too: delete your account and the app, and that's that.

When we change these terms, we change the date at the top, and if the change is a big one we'll say so on this website. If you keep using 2dle after a change, you've agreed to the new terms.

No Promises

We make 2dle with a lot of care, but it comes as it is, without warranties of any kind. We don't promise that it will always work, be free of bugs, or get along with every music app and every version of macOS.

Liability

We aren't liable for damage that comes from using 2dle, unless we caused it on purpose or through gross negligence.

Where the law doesn't allow that (consumer law, in Japan and elsewhere, sometimes doesn't) and we were careless without being grossly negligent, we're liable only for the direct damage that would ordinarily follow, and not for lost profits, lost data or other indirect damage.

Nothing in these terms takes away rights that the law says can't be taken away.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any dispute goes to the Tokyo District Court as the court of first instance. If you're a consumer living somewhere else, you keep the protections your own country's law guarantees you.
